Principal Ecologist Dr Jane Young founded the YOUNG NATURE Ecological Consultancy and teams up with other specialists to provide a wide range of high quality ecological services.
Jane is a committed and enthusiastic scientist with nearly 30 years experience in natural history, ecology, conservation and has excellent appropriate qualifications and field identification skills.
In recent years as an ecological consultant, Jane has provided ecological services for a wide variety of statutory and non-statutory organisations, public and private businesses, schools and individuals.
Jane Young's work has been highly praised. In 1998 she won a Bill Foster Conservation Award for the design of a habitat creation scheme for NorthWest Water plc. In 1999 she received a Millennium Award from The Royal Society and The British Association for interpreting the countryside for visually-impaired visitors.
Jane particularly enjoys communicating her enthusiasm for wildlife and ecology in talks, workshops, guided walks and training courses.
Pioneering countryside interpretation for blind and partially sighted people is of particular interest to Jane. Her pioneering ideas have been described as "providing a giant leap forward in our way of thinking about countryside interpretation". She has written papers and broadcast specifically on this topic.
Jane Young keeps up to date with current developments in ecology and conservation and as a Member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management works in accordance with their Code of Professional Practice. She is also a member of the British Ecological Society, several natural history organisations and a member of the BT Countryside Access for All Northern Region Working Group.
